1:30 pm Keynote : Staying Power in Mentoring:Making it Work, Making it Stick
What role does mentoring play in building and inclusive, just, and more equitable future for new faculty and post-docs? This conversation considers how we might rethink our interactions between mentor and mentee to generate lasting and meaningful support for new colleagues entering academia. We’ll discuss four guideposts for devising and implementing new mentoring processes with an eye to what works and what sticks.

Before you can effectively pursue or participate in a mentoring relationship, you must understand your own goals and the role your self-management plays in career success. Join Dr. Carr in this discussion of how to facilitate your ownprofessional and personal success strategic reading, professional development, and self-management.

How can we infuse an inclusive lens into the mentoring process? This session will explore the advantages and opportunities associated with cross-cultural and cross-gender mentoring, and will explore the practice of equity-based mentoring for new professionals.

3:40 pm – 4:20 pm Navigating Mentorship and Mentorship Models During COVID-19
This session will explore critical roles and responsibilities of the mentor and the mentee, particularly given the constraints of navigating mentorship during the COVID-19 pandemic. Panelists will also highlight different examples of mentoring models and their value to participants. The session will probe the opportunities of e-mentoring, the role of wellness, and what it means to be professionally nimble and launch a career at this time.

4:30 pm – 5:00 pm EST Closing Conversation and Networking
Over a cup of coffee, tea, or other hot beverage of your choosing, learn about the 2022 annual conference, and ways to get involved. This session will also provide opportunities to build community and establish relationships with conference attendees.
All attendees will be invited to a “mentoring reconnections” event at the 2022 conference this July! As a bonus, attendees who attend all 5 sessions will be entered into a drawing to receive a discount to SFHE’s annual conference.
The 2022 conference is scheduled for July 20-24 at the University of Denver! We will focus on pursuing inclusivity. Individuals and/or campus cohorts will connect as interdisciplinary teams in productive conversation and consultation; they will leave the meeting with action plans to pursue when they return to their home campuses and communities.
