Fisk Visit Information
A site visit to Fisk University will present the opportunity to make more concrete connections with aspects of the SFHE’s conference theme. Not only did W.E.B. Du Bois graduate from Fisk in 1888, a collection of his papers and manuscripts resides there, some of which will be on display. In addition, attendees will be able to see archival materials related to Black literary intellectuals like Langston Hughes and Countee Cullen as well as cultural artifacts that document the historic Fisk Jubilee Singers. The trip will also include stops at Fisk’s art galleries, the historic Memorial Chapel, Cravath Hall (in which some of Harlem Renaissance artist Aaron Douglas’s famous murals live), Jubilee Hall, and the DuBois Statue.
Please join us for what promises to be an enriching intellectual and cultural experience designed to enliven this year’s conference theme.
