Spring 2019 Reading for the Common Good
The Society for Values in Higher Education announces its Reading for the Common Good program for the Spring 2019 semester. The program is designed to facilitate gatherings and conversation (a common good) in order to discuss issues or problems related to our lives together (the common good).
Here’s how it works: Any SVHE member can request to participate with the requirement that he or she will gather 8-10 colleagues during the spring semester to discuss a book related to the theme of our summer meeting (we recommend monthly meetings). Let us know if you’re interested and we’ll buy the books for you! This semester you can choose one of two books:
The Splintering of the American Mind: Identity Politics, Inequality, and Community on Today’s College Campuses by William Egginton
“I Love Learning; I Hate School”: An Anthropology of College by Susan D. Blum
